This medication is used for treating and preventing osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and treating osteoporosis in men.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet of this medication orally once a week. Since food may interfere with the absorption of this medication, it should be taken at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after eating any food or drink during the day. This medication should be taken with a sufficient amount of plain water (170-230ml) in an upright position and should not be chewed or sucked. After taking it, remain upright for at least a minimum of 30 minutes.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastric mucosa and cause esophageal problems such as esophagitis or esophageal ulcers. Therefore, it should be taken with sufficient water, and one should avoid lying down for some time after taking it. If there is pain or discomfort in the esophagus, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain conditions, such as those with esophageal motility disorders or severe renal impairment. Additionally, patients with a known allergy to this medication or genetic issues like lactose intolerance should also avoid taking it. While taking this medication, various side effects such as indigestion, abdominal pain, myalgia, arthralgia, headache, dizziness, and skin rash may occur. If any unusual symptoms arise, they should inform the healthcare professionals. Calcium and vitamin D intake is crucial while using this medication, and it is advisable for osteoporosis patients to supplement both calcium and vitamin D. It is also important to note that taking this medication with food or drinks containing divalent cations such as calcium, magnesium, and iron may interfere with absorption. Use of this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be approached with caution, and consulting a physician is recommended if necessary. As safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established, it is generally recommended not to administer this medication to children. In case of overdose, hypocalcemia may occur, so immediate medical assistance should be sought for appropriate treatment.
