This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men. Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by reduced bone density, increasing the risk of fractures. This therapeutic agent helps to strengthen bones and reduce the risk of fractures. Particularly, postmenopausal women are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis due to hormonal changes, thus this medication works effectively. Additionally, it assists in the treatment of osteoporosis in men, improving overall bone health.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 1 tablet of this medication orally once a week. As food can interfere with the absorption of this medication, take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or two hours before or after any food or beverage intake during the day. Take it with a sufficient amount of plain water (170-230 mL) in an upright position and do not chew or suck it. Avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking.

Precautions

This medication can irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, possibly leading to esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, or esophageal erosion. If symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, pain during swallowing, pain behind the sternum, or heartburn occur after taking this medication, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Take this medication with a sufficient amount of water, and it is important not to lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. Individuals with esophageal disorders, gastritis, duodenitis, or other gastrointestinal diseases should be cautious when using this medication. People with esophageal motility disorders, allergies to the components of this medication, or severe renal dysfunction should not take this medication. This medication contains lactose; therefore, individuals with lactose intolerance should also refrain from using it. While taking this medication, do not take it with drugs or foods containing divalent cations such as calcium, magnesium, or iron, and maintain a time interval before and after taking. If dental treatment is needed, consult a physician in advance due to the risk of jaw osteonecrosis. During prolonged use, monitor changes in serum calcium and phosphate levels as hypocalcemia symptoms may appear, requiring caution. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding must consult their physician before taking this medication. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so it is advisable not to use it in this population. Elderly patients can use it without special precautions but should consider other health conditions. In case of overdose, hypocalcemia may occur, necessitating an immediate visit to a healthcare institution for appropriate treatment. Store this medication out of reach of children and avoid transferring it to another container.
