This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, which can occur in both postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Administer 1 tablet of this medication orally once a week. Since food can interfere with the absorption of this medication, take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours apart from food or drink during the day. Take this medication upright with a sufficient amount of plain water (170-230 ml), and do not chew or suck on it. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the stomach and esophagus, which could lead to problems such as esophagitis or ulcers. If there is pain in the throat or chest or difficulty swallowing after taking this medication, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Take the medication while sitting or standing with a sufficient amount of water, and do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. This medication should not be used by patients with certain esophageal diseases or severe renal impairment. Additionally, patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should avoid taking it. It is important to ensure an adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D while taking this medication, and other causes of osteoporosis should also be considered. Since rare side effects such as osteonecrosis of the jaw may occur, attention should be paid to oral hygiene, and dental treatment should be consulted with a doctor. Moreover, if pain occurs in the back, joints, or muscles during medication, it should be reported immediately. It is advisable not to take this medication concurrently with other drugs or foods that contain calcium, magnesium, or iron, as this medication is not significantly metabolized in the body and is primarily excreted through the kidneys. If pregnant or breastfeeding, it is advisable to avoid this medication or consult a doctor thoroughly. Safety for children has not been established, and elderly patients can use it without special precautions. In case of overdose, monitoring for symptoms of hypocalcemia, as blood calcium levels may drop, is critical, and treatment such as calcium supplements or gastric lavage may be necessary. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
