Precautions

This medication should only be used after carefully verifying that the sleep disorder is not a symptom of a physical or mental illness. If insomnia does not improve after 7 to 10 days of use, other conditions may be present, and consultation with a specialist is necessary. Caution is required as behaviors such as sleep-driving or eating during sleep, which are not remembered, may occur while taking this medication. Taking it with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may increase these risks, so they should not be taken together. Patients with depression might experience worsening suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so careful observation for changes in symptoms is essential. After taking this medication, activities such as driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided, and caution is necessary as drowsiness or decreased concentration may occur during the day. This medication should not be administered to patients with specific medications or conditions, particularly those currently or recently taking MAO inhibitors. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor as it can affect the fetus or baby. Safety for use in children has not been established, so it is advisable not to use it. The elderly may be more sensitive to this medication and may require dosage adjustments and careful monitoring. Patients with impaired liver function may experience increased drug concentration, so starting with a lower dose is recommended, with careful observation of the condition. Patients with sleep apnea should be cautious as this medication may suppress respiration and is not recommended for severe cases. Although the potential for drug abuse is low, if unusual behaviors such as seeking the medication or increasing dosage occur, evaluation by a specialist is necessary. Serious side effects may occur with overdose, so immediate medical attention is required. During use of this medication, it is important to avoid combining it with alcohol or other sedatives and to be vigilant about drug interactions.
