Precautions

This drug should not be used by pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, as well as by breastfeeding women. It should not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation, as this drug may stimulate gastrointestinal motility and could be harmful. Certain tumor patients, particularly those with pheochromocytoma, may experience side effects like elevated blood pressure and should not use this medication. Patients with allergies to this drug or who cannot tolerate it should also not be administered this medication. Its use is contraindicated in patients with liver diseases, manic states, or those in a manic phase of bipolar disorder. Patients with breast-related diseases should be cautious, as the prolactin secretion-enhancing effect of this medication may worsen their symptoms. Individuals with genetic disorders that prevent lactase from breaking down lactose should avoid this drug due to the lactose it contains. Patients with hypertension, children, and the elderly should carefully use this medication due to the risk of side effects. This drug may cause symptoms like amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia due to hormonal secretion abnormalities; symptoms should be closely monitored. Rarely, neurological side effects such as tremors, abnormal tongue movements, and anxiety may occur; if such symptoms arise, use should be immediately discontinued. Long-term use may result in persistent abnormal movement symptoms such as involuntary movements around the mouth, thus caution is needed. Gastrointestinal side effects may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Cardiac side effects may lead to hypertension or arrhythmias, so caution is warranted. Severe adverse effects known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome have rarely been reported; if symptoms like high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness occur, the use of the drug must be stopped, and treatment should be sought immediately. If skin rashes or swelling develop, medication must be discontinued; occasionally, flushing, lethargy, insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness, staggering, erectile dysfunction, and changes in libido may occur. This medication requires caution when driving or operating machinery; high doses may increase the risk of cardiac rhythm abnormalities and cerebrovascular accidents, so it should be used with care, especially in the elderly or those at risk of stroke. This drug may interact with other medications, so caution is necessary when used with anticholinergics, analgesics, digitalis preparations, psychiatric drugs, and drugs that prolong the QT interval. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid use due to uncertain safety for the fetus and newborn. The elderly may experience increased drug concentration due to impaired renal function, necessitating dose adjustment and monitoring for side effects. This drug may suppress vomiting symptoms, so caution is necessary when there are other underlying conditions causing vomiting; animal studies have reported possible reproductive toxicity and tumor formation.
