This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent relapse in patients with erosive reflux esophagitis. It is also effective in alleviating symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is used in conjunction with antibiotic therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, assisting in the treatment and prevention of recurrence of benign duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers. The medication is applicable for short-term treatment of symptoms of the upper gastrointestinal tract induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (both non-selective and selective COX-2 inhibitors). Furthermore, it is utilized in the treatment of gastric ulcers in patients receiving long-term non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug treatment and in the prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers. Additionally, it is effective for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding from gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers. It is widely used for various gastrointestinal diseases.

Rare side effects such as blood cell count reductions, hypersensitivity reactions, and hypomagnesemia may occur when taking this medication, requiring caution. Various symptoms, including headache, dizziness, gastrointestinal disturbances, and skin rashes, may manifest, and in severe cases, consultation with a specialist is recommended. Long-term use requires regular monitoring, and it is important to inform your doctor about potential drug interactions that may alter the effects of other medications. Particularly with antibiotic combinations, it is critical to thoroughly review the instructions, as some medications may be contraindicated or require dosage adjustments when used together. Patients at risk of osteoporosis or fractures should exercise caution when taking this medication over extended periods. Patients with genetic issues such as fructose intolerance should avoid taking this medication, and periodic blood tests are necessary due to the potential for hypomagnesemia with long-term use. Limited data exists on the use of this medication during pregnancy, so pregnant women should consult their doctor before use, and breastfeeding women should avoid taking it.
