This medicine is used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension where sufficient control is not achieved with monotherapy.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose is 1 tablet of Valsartan 80 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, which can be taken regardless of meals with a small amount of water. Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg applies if prescribed for blood pressure lowering. No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance greater than 30 mL/min). For patients with liver impairment without cholestasis, the dose should not exceed 80 mg once daily.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. People allergic to the ingredients of this drug or sulfonamide medications should not use it. Patients with severe liver or kidney disease, certain kidney disorders, and those with a history of angioedema should not take this medication. Use with caution in patients with certain conditions such as electrolyte imbalances, kidney or liver function abnormalities, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, or elderly patients. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Do not take potassium supplements or potassium-containing foods without consulting a doctor, and it is important to regularly check electrolyte levels. This drug may interact with other medications, so be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other drugs you are taking. The hydrochlorothiazide component can cause sensitivity to sunlight, so you should avoid sun exposure and take care to protect your skin. During the course of this medication, adverse reactions such as headaches, dizziness, fatigue, skin rash, and indigestion may occur; if symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a healthcare provider. In the case of an overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, arrhythmias, and electrolyte imbalances may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication has not been established as safe for children, and it is recommended that breastfeeding women avoid taking it.
