Reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke and improves hyperlipidemia
This medication helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In adults with risk factors such as advanced age, smoking, and hypertension, or in patients with type 2 diabetes, it can lower the risk of myocardial infarction or stroke. In patients who already have coronary heart disease, it has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and angina, as well as the risk of hospitalization for congestive heart failure. Additionally, in patients with hyperlipidemia, it helps lower total cholesterol and bad LDL cholesterol levels while increasing good HDL cholesterol levels, thereby improving blood lipid profiles. It is also used, along with a diet regimen, for cholesterol management in children aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Overall, it is effectively used to improve cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of diseases.
Administration can occur at any time of the day, regardless of food intake. For hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10mg once daily, and patients requiring further reductions in LDL cholesterol levels may start at either 20mg or 40mg once daily. This medication is administered within a range of 10-80mg once daily. Initial and maintenance doses should be individualized based on treatment goals and responses, with lipid levels analyzed within 2-4 weeks.
The recommended initial dose for pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10mg once daily, and the recommended maximum dose is 20mg once daily. The dosage should be adjusted appropriately based on the patient's treatment goals.
