This medication is used to control hypertension and improve myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina due to narrowed coronary arteries and variant angina due to sudden vascular contraction.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken with a sufficient amount of water. As esamlodipine, an oral dose of 2.5 mg is taken once daily, which can be increased to a maximum of 5 mg per day depending on the patient's response. Adjust dosage appropriately according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients with allergies to this medication or its components, or who have had hypersensitivity reactions to similar types of medications should not take this medication. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are nursing should not take this medication. Patients with cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, unstable angina, those within one month of a myocardial infarction, severe liver dysfunction, or severe hypotension should not be given this medication. This medication should be used cautiously in patients with very poor kidney function, elderly patients, acute heart failure patients, those with very high blood pressure, and those with mild to moderate liver dysfunction. Various side effects may occur while taking this medication. Typically, flushing and a sensation of warmth may be experienced, along with fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, and nausea. Symptoms such as drowsiness or ankle swelling may also appear. Rarely, symptoms such as dry mouth, increased sweating, excessively low blood pressure or fainting, sensory disturbances, erectile dysfunction, dyspepsia, weight changes, joint pain, and skin rashes have been reported. In severe cases, liver dysfunction or allergic reactions may occur, and if these symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. Discontinuing this medication suddenly can worsen symptoms; therefore, it should not be stopped without a doctor's guidance. Patients with heart failure should be cautious as pulmonary edema may increase while taking this medication. Patients with poor liver function should be monitored for extended half-life of the drug in the body, necessitating dosage adjustments and observation. It is advisable to take this medication with plenty of water, and be cautious about driving or operating dangerous machinery as low blood pressure may cause dizziness or drowsiness. This medication can interact with various other medications. Particularly, taking it with grapefruit juice can enhance its blood pressure-lowering effect, which is not recommended. Additionally, it should be discussed with a doctor when taking it with specific antibiotics, blood pressure medications, antidepressants, nitrates, etc. It is safest for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding not to take this medication. It should only be used in children aged 6 and older, as safety and efficacy have not been established for younger ages. Elderly patients may experience stronger effects from this medication, so it is recommended to start with a low dose and closely monitor their condition. In case of overdose, blood pressure may drop excessively, and heart function may be impaired; thus, immediate medical attention is necessary, and treatment such as gastric lavage or blood pressure recovery may be required. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and not transferred to other containers.
