(Hypertension, Angina) Improvement of myocardial ischemia and reduction of (cardiovascular disease) risk
This medication is used for patients who need to take both amlodipine (S-amlodipine) and atorvastatin. Amlodipine is effective for hypertension or angina caused by coronary artery disease, vascular spasms, and vascular constriction leading to myocardial ischemia. Furthermore, it reduces the risk of hospitalization due to angina and the risk of coronary artery revascularization in patients confirmed to have coronary artery disease but without heart failure. Atorvastatin helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, lowering the risks of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular revascularization, and angina in patients with multiple risk factors, those with type 2 diabetes, and patients with coronary artery disease. It also improves cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia, and is beneficial for patients who do not respond to dietary therapy or those with familial hypercholesterolemia. Thus, this medication is used for the prevention and treatment of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, as well as improvement of dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered solely to adults, with the dosage individualized based on the effectiveness and tolerability of amlodipine/atorvastatin for each patient. Amlodipine (S-amlodipine): Administer orally once daily 5 (2.5) mg, with a maximum increase to 10 (5) mg daily based on patient response. Atorvastatin: The recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, and if necessary, it can be increased to 20 mg.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients allergic to this medication or similar components or those with very poor liver function, active liver disease, biliary obstruction, or muscle disorders should avoid taking it. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing women, should also not use this medication safely. Additionally, patients with severe aortic stenosis, in shock, those within one month post-myocardial infarction, or those with unstable angina should not use this medication either. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, the elderly, alcoholics, or those with a history of liver disease should use this medication cautiously. Specifically, patients at high risk for muscle injury should check muscle enzyme levels before administration and be monitored carefully. Patients with acute heart failure or hypertensive crises, those with mildly impaired liver function, and patients with severe myasthenia gravis should also use this medication with caution. Generally, this medication is well tolerated; however, symptoms such as flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea may occur. Rarely, side effects such as myalgia, rash, itching, liver function abnormalities, blood abnormalities, or respiratory distress have been reported. If these side effects occur, notify medical personnel immediately and receive appropriate care. It is advisable not to use this medication in pregnant or nursing women. Women who may become pregnant should use appropriate contraception, and if pregnancy is confirmed, discontinue usage of the medication immediately. Nursing mothers should also halt breastfeeding while taking this medication. Safety for children and the elderly has not been fully established, so special caution is advised. In the event of overdose, symptoms such as severe hypotension, tachycardia, or shock may occur, necessitating immediate emergency treatment. Hemodialysis is not effective in removing this medication, thus alternative treatment methods are needed. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it is crucial to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken. Extra caution should be taken when combined with medications affecting liver function or increasing the risk of muscle damage. During the course of taking this medication, regular liver function tests and muscle function checks are important to detect any signs of abnormalities early. Finally, keep this medication out of the reach of children, and do not transfer the medication to other containers.
