Adult dose
For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: The usual adult dose is 10 mg orally once daily as lansoprazole sodium. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered orally once daily. It is usually given for up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) for 8 weeks.

This medication is used for the treatment of gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, erosive and ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It also alleviates symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and helps in long-term maintenance therapy. For patients with gastrointestinal ulcers due to Helicobacter pylori infection, it is used in combination with antibiotics, and it is effective in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Overall, it is used for the treatment of gastric and duodenal diseases and the improvement of symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: The usual adult dose is 10 mg orally once daily as lansoprazole sodium. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered orally once daily. It is usually given for up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) for 8 weeks.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to certain components. Caution is also needed when co-administering this medication with penicillin and macrolide antibiotics in patients with allergies. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication. Patients with impaired liver function or the elderly should use this medication cautiously, and caution is needed in those with a history of drug allergies. If allergic symptoms such as rash, hives, or itching occur while taking this medication, it should be discontinued immediately. Regular blood tests are necessary as red blood cell or white blood cell counts may change. Liver function tests should also be performed regularly, and if abnormalities are found, the medication should be discontinued, and appropriate measures taken. Careful observation is necessary as cardiac symptoms, blood pressure changes, gastrointestinal symptoms, and neurological symptoms may occur. Various adverse reactions, including difficulty breathing, coughing, skin rash, and muscle pain have been reported, so consultation with medical personnel is necessary if any abnormalities are experienced. Long-term use may increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, so bone health management may be required if necessary. Hypomagnesemia may occur, and magnesium levels should be checked periodically, especially if taken long-term or with certain medications. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion and may increase the risk of gastrointestinal infections, so if diarrhea persists, immediate diagnosis and treatment should be sought. Caution is necessary as drowsiness or decreased concentration may occur while driving or operating machinery. The effects of the medication may be reduced when co-administered with certain antiviral agents, so they should not be taken together. Tablets should not be chewed or crushed, but should be swallowed whole and kept out of reach of children. If this medication is taken long-term, regular checks should be done to monitor for side effects, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately.
