Treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, alleviation of symptoms related to gastroesophageal reflux disease, and maintenance therapy effects
This medication is used for the treatment of ulcers that develop in the stomach and duodenum. It alleviates the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and prevents recurrence through long-term treatment. For patients with gastrointestinal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, it is used in combination with antibiotics to enhance treatment efficacy. It is also effective for conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, which involves excessive gastric acid secretion. This medication is used for the treatment and symptom improvement of various gastrointestinal diseases.
For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Administer 10 mg orally once daily, which may be increased to 20 mg once daily as needed. Treatment duration is 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms do not improve after 8 weeks, an additional 8 weeks of 10 mg or 20 mg twice daily may be administered. For the alleviation of symptoms in gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, further medical attention is needed. After symptoms disappear, a demand therapy with 10 mg once daily can be used to manage any subsequent symptoms. Long-term maintenance therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg orally once daily depending on the patient. For Helicobacter pylori eradication: Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection should receive eradication therapy. It is recommended to administer this drug at 20 mg with clarithromycin 500 mg and amoxicillin 1 g twice daily for 7 days. For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: The recommended initial dose for adults is 60 mg once daily. The dose can be adjusted as needed up to 120 mg daily. Doses up to 100 mg can be administered once daily, while 120 mg should be divided into two doses of 60 mg each. There is experience administering this medication to Zollinger-Ellison syndrome patients for up to one year. ◯ Patients with liver dysfunction Adverse reactions related to hepatic encephalopathy have been reported in cirrhotic patients. Therefore, caution is advised in administration. ◯ Pediatric patients Safety in pediatric patients has not been established. ◯ Elderly patients Caution is advised as many elderly patients may have compromised liver function.
This medication should not be used in patients with specific allergic reactions or who are hypersensitive to certain antibiotics. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication. Patients with impaired liver function or elderly patients should exercise greater caution when taking this medication. This medication may cause allergic symptoms such as skin rash and itching, so if these symptoms occur, it should be discontinued immediately. Blood tests and liver function tests should be performed regularly, and if abnormal symptoms are found, a consultation with a doctor is necessary. Various side effects may occur, including those affecting the heart, gastrointestinal system, and nervous system, so any symptoms should be reported immediately. There is an increased risk of fractures with long-term use, so the duration of use should follow the doctor's instructions. Interactions with certain medications may occur while taking this medication, so inform healthcare professionals when taking other medications. Caution is required as drowsiness may occur when driving or operating machinery. Keep out of reach of children and swallow tablets whole without chewing or crushing them. The risk of gastrointestinal infections may slightly increase, so if diarrhea persists, consult a healthcare professional. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication as safety has not been confirmed. Long-term use may affect vitamin B12 absorption, so regular check-ups are necessary. If any abnormal symptoms appear on the skin or throughout the body while taking this medication, it should be discontinued immediately and a specialist consulted.
