Precautions

This medication is used to treat depression; however, it may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or self-harm behaviors, so patients should be closely monitored during the initial treatment period. Particularly, patients with a history of previous suicide attempts or suicidal thoughts require more careful management. It should not be used in children under 15 years, patients with certain genetic disorders, or individuals allergic to any components of this medication. While taking this medication, symptoms such as decreased appetite, insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness, and headaches may occur; in rare cases, psychiatric symptoms such as suicidal thoughts or hallucinations may arise. Patients undergoing surgery should inform their anesthesiologist about this medication in advance, and depending on the situation, may have to discontinue it 24-48 hours prior to surgery. It should not be taken with alcohol or medications containing alcohol, and do not abruptly stop the medication on your own; dosage should be gradually reduced according to a doctor's instructions. Caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery as drowsiness may occur, and patients with a history of drug or alcohol dependence should be particularly careful due to the risk of substance abuse. Patients with impaired kidney function or the elderly may need to limit the dosage to twice a day due to the prolonged half-life of the drug. This medication can rarely cause electrolyte imbalances such as hyponatremia, so extra caution is needed for the elderly, patients with liver disease, or those in a dehydrated state. In case of overdose, drowsiness or coma may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought; it should be stored in a safe place out of reach of children.
