This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it may be dangerous to administer to individuals with allergies to this medication or its ingredients, those with unexplained rectal bleeding, and those in severe dehydration. Additionally, it is advisable not to use this medication for patients who have swallowing difficulties or those in a position that may cause the medication to reflux. Patients with issues involving the colon or bowel function or acute abdominal conditions, bowel obstruction, or bowel strictures may experience an exacerbation of symptoms from using this medication. Patients with hypercalcemia, kidney stones, or severe renal failure should not take this medication. It should also not be given to patients with severe abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting symptoms. Patients who need to limit calcium intake or those taking active vitamin D preparations should use this medication cautiously, and patients on cardiac glycosides should also exercise caution. Patients with low gastric acid secretion or those who have undergone gastric resection, those undergoing dialysis or with mild renal failure should also be cautious when taking this medication. This medication may cause allergic reactions such as rashes or itching; if such symptoms occur, use should be discontinued, and the patient should consult a physician. Adverse reactions may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, and symptoms related to digestive issues, liver function abnormalities, hypercalcemia, swelling, headache, etc. Taking this medication without sufficient water can cause it to become lodged in the throat or esophagus, resulting in blockage or choking risks. Therefore, it must be taken with water. If chest pain, difficulty breathing, or swallowing difficulties occur after taking, immediate cessation of use and consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary. This medication is for symptom relief; if symptoms do not improve after more than 7 days of use, a physician should be consulted, and long-term use (more than 3 months) should be monitored closely for adverse reactions. When taken with other medications, it is advisable to maintain at least a 2-hour interval as it may affect absorption. Special caution should be exercised when taken with tetracycline antibiotics or fluoroquinolone antimicrobial agents, and the risk of hypercalcemia increases when combined with active vitamin D preparations. Taking this medication with calcium supplements may lead to hypercalcemia, and side effects such as arrhythmia may occur with the use of cardiac glycosides, thus caution is needed. Moreover, taking this medication with acid secretion suppressants may reduce its efficacy. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only take this medication if the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks, and safety for children has not been established. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, making them susceptible to hypercalcemia, so dose adjustments and careful monitoring are advised. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in a cool, dry place at room temperature. It is best to store it in the original container and avoid transferring it to another container.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
