Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive reflux esophagitis) and eradication of Helicobacter pylori related peptic ulcers, prevention of recurrence of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers.
This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), particularly erosive reflux esophagitis, and is indicated for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of esophagitis. It also helps relieve symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. This medication is used in combination with antibiotics to treat and prevent recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. It is effective in treating discomfort or pain in the upper gastrointestinal tract caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and is also used for the prevention and treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is also used in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding from gastric and duodenal ulcers after intravenous administration. It is widely utilized for the treatment of various gastrointestinal disorders to help improve patients' symptoms.
This medication should be taken with liquids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If esophagitis is not healed or symptoms persist, continue for an additional 4 weeks. - Long-term maintenance therapy for prevention of recurrence in patients with esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. - For patients without esophagitis:

This medication should not be used in patients with specific allergic reactions or those who have had past allergies to this medication or its components. It is also not recommended for patients currently taking certain antibiotics or antivirals, and for nursing mothers, to ensure safety. During treatment, various side effects may occur, including rare blood disorders, hypersensitivity reactions, neurological symptoms, and gastrointestinal disturbances. If any unusual symptoms arise, it is essential to consult a doctor immediately. Regular monitoring is required for patients on long-term therapy, especially in those taking it for more than one year, focusing on magnesium levels periodically. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, it's crucial to inform the healthcare provider or pharmacist about any medications being taken together. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should discuss the use of this medication with healthcare professionals before taking it, and it is advisable not to take it while breastfeeding. In case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, treatment should be symptomatic, and it must be kept out of reach of children.
Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic reaction, shock, hypocalcemia and hypokalemia due to hypomagnesemia, anxiety, confusion, hallucination, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, bronchospasm, pancreatitis, liver failure, encephalopathy, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, eosinophilia and systemic symptoms.
