This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with hypertension. It also treats myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina due to fixed occlusion of coronary arteries and variant angina due to transient coronary artery spasm. It improves blood supply to the heart and alleviates symptoms, making it effective for hypertension and heart-related ischemic diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Take this medication with a sufficient amount of water. Administer 2.5 mg orally once daily as esamlodipine, and adjust up to a maximum of 5 mg daily based on patient response. Adjust appropriately based on symptoms.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in certain patients. For example, it is contraindicated in individuals with allergies to this drug or similar components, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, patients in cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction, severe liver dysfunction, and severe hypotension. Additionally, it should be used with caution in patients with very poor renal function, elderly patients, those with acute heart failure, hypertensive crisis, and patients with moderate liver impairment. Various side effects may occur while taking this medication. The most common side effects include flushing, feeling hot, fatigue, swelling, rapid heartbeat or dizziness, headache, nausea, and drowsiness. Rarely, symptoms such as dry mouth or excessive sweating, excessively low blood pressure, neurological symptoms, sexual dysfunction, skin rash, liver dysfunction may occur, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to a doctor. Abrupt discontinuation of this drug may worsen symptoms, so dosage must be reduced gradually under a doctor's guidance, and it is important not to stop taking this medication arbitrarily. Patients with heart failure or impaired liver function may experience prolonged effects of the drug, so caution is required. Take with sufficient water, and be cautious as blood pressure may drop causing dizziness, which could affect driving or operating dangerous machinery. This drug may interact with various other medications, so it is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist, especially if taking specific antibiotics, antihypertensives, antidepressants, alcohol, grapefruit juice, etc., and it is advised to avoid grapefruit juice. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid this medication as its safety has not been established, and it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding while using this drug. In children, safety and efficacy have been confirmed only in those over 6 years of age, and it has not been established for children under 6. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, cardiac abnormalities, and altered consciousness may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment, as blood dialysis is ineffective.
