Improvement of symptoms and urinary flow in benign prostatic hyperplasia, reduction in need for surgery
This medication improves symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia and helps reduce the size of the enlarged prostate, facilitating smoother urination. Additionally, it lowers the frequency of acute urinary retention, reducing discomfort, and helps decrease the necessity for prostate surgery. Overall, it is used to improve prostate health and effectively alleviate symptoms.
As finasteride, 5 mg is administered orally once daily, regardless of meals. Even if symptoms improve while taking, at least 6 months of treatment is required.
This medication should not be used by children and women. Especially, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not handle broken pieces of this medication, as they may harm male fetuses. Depression or mood changes may occur while taking this medication, so mental health status should be carefully monitored, and if abnormal symptoms appear, consultation with a healthcare professional is advised. Patients with allergic reactions or specific genetic disorders, and those allergic to soybean oil, soy, or peanuts should not take this medication. Patients with liver function issues, or abnormalities in fat metabolism such as hyperlipidemia or diabetes should use this medication cautiously, and it is recommended to regularly check blood lipid levels. This medication generally has few side effects, but erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, and ejaculation disorders may occur; if symptoms persist, consult a doctor. There have been reports of male breast cancer associated with long-term use, but a definitive causal relationship has not yet been established. This medication has few interactions with other drugs, but if you are taking other medications, inform your healthcare provider. Pregnant women or nursing mothers should not take this medication, as exposure during pregnancy may pose a risk of genital abnormalities in male fetuses. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed; therefore, it is not used in pediatric patients. Elderly patients can use this medication without special dose adjustments, but caution is necessary if abnormal symptoms occur. Therapeutic effects may not appear immediately, and regular examinations are necessary as it may influence prostate cancer diagnosis. There are no specific detoxification methods for overdose, and it should be kept out of the reach of children.
