This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis, as well as for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It is also effectively used in combination with antibiotics for the treatment of duodenal and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It helps in the short-term treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and in the treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers occurring in patients taking NSAIDs. Additionally, it is suitable for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, as well as for the prevention and maintenance therapy for rebleeding of gastric or duodenal ulcers. This medication is beneficial in managing various gastrointestinal diseases.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic or have experienced hypersensitivity reactions to this medication or its ingredients, as well as patients with allergies to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics should refrain from taking this medication. Furthermore, patients currently taking certain medications, such as terfenadine, cisapride, pimodivir, astemizole, atazanavir, nelfinavir, or rilpivirine-containing preparations should also avoid using this medication. Women who are nursing or patients with a history of myocardial infarction should not be administered this medication. This medication contains a dye called Yellow No. 5, so it should be used with caution in individuals with allergies or hypersensitivity to this component. When taking this medication, various side effects may occur, so caution is necessary. Commonly reported side effects include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, while rare cases of blood disorders, liver function abnormalities, and severe skin reactions have been reported. Regular check-ups are necessary during prolonged use, and patients should consult their physician if symptoms change. This medication can interact with other drugs, especially when taken simultaneously with antiviral agents, anticoagulants, antibiotics, and anticonvulsants. If pregnant or nursing, it is essential to consult a doctor regarding the use of this medication. In case of overdose, since no specific antidote exists, immediate medical attention is required.

Serious side effects

Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis/reaction/shock, severe rashes with fever, blisters, skin peeling, oral/ocular mucosal pain, erythema multiforme, systemic lupus erythematosus, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), shortness of breath, asthma attacks, bronchospasm, jaundice, liver failure, hepatitis, severe headache, seizures.

Mild side effects

Headache, dizziness, sensory disturbances, drowsiness, taste disturbances, blurred vision, vertigo, bronchospasm, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, stomatitis, gastrointestinal candidiasis, dermatitis, itching, rash, hair loss, photosensitivity, fractures, arthralgia, myalgia, muscle weakness, increased liver enzymes, hepatitis, asthenia, increased sweating, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, allergic reactions, back pain, chest pain.
