This medication is used for the treatment of myocardial ischemia due to hypertension or stable angina and variant angina. It also reduces the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with established coronary artery disease who do not have heart failure and have a left ventricular ejection fraction greater than 40%, and decreases the risk of coronary artery revascularization. Therefore, it is effectively used in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Take 5mg of amlodipine once daily orally, and may increase to a maximum of 10mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjust appropriately according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This drug is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that lowers blood pressure and reduces the burden on the heart. However, this medication should not be administered to patients with known allergies to it, women who are breastfeeding, patients with severe hepatic impairment or aortic stenosis, and patients in shock. Patients with severe hypotension, those requiring dialysis due to renal failure, the elderly, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication with caution. Common side effects may include facial flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, reports of hypotension, vasculitis, neurological abnormalities, gastrointestinal issues, skin rashes, and liver function abnormalities have been noted; if any unusual symptoms occur, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is advised. Patients with heart failure or impaired liver function may experience delayed metabolism of this medication, necessitating dose adjustment and caution. This medication has a slow onset of action, making it unsuitable for acute cardiac conditions. It is known to have little impact on driving or operating machinery. This medication can interact with various other drugs; therefore, if you are taking other medications, you must inform healthcare professionals. In particular, concurrent use with grapefruit juice may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect, so it is advisable to avoid grapefruit juice consumption. The safety of this drug has not been established in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and it should only be used under medical supervision when necessary, with a recommendation to temporarily discontinue breastfeeding. In children, this medication is only applicable for those aged 6 years and older, as safety and efficacy have not been established for those under 6 years of age. In the case of overdose, severe hypotension or shock may occur, necessitating immediate emergency treatment, and this drug is not removed by hemodialysis. Long-term use of this drug has not been associated with carcinogenicity or the potential to induce mutations.
