This medication is used for symptoms of myocardial ischemia caused by hypertension, stable angina, and variant angina. Additionally, it reduces the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients without heart failure and with a cardiac output of 40% or greater who were recently diagnosed with coronary artery disease through angiography. It is also effective in reducing the risks associated with coronary artery interventions. This medication primarily helps manage cardiovascular diseases and alleviate symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 5 mg orally once daily as amlodipine; the dosage may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

It is very important not to use this medication in certain patients. Individuals who have had allergic reactions to this medication or similar drugs in the past should not take it. Additionally, it is contraindicated for breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe narrowing of the heart valves, and patients in shock. This medication lowers blood pressure, so it should be used with caution in patients with very low blood pressure, severely impaired kidney function requiring dialysis, elderly patients, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Common side effects when taking this medication may include flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, hypotension, neurological abnormalities, dyspepsia, skin rashes, and liver dysfunction may occur; if any abnormal symptoms appear, consult a doctor. Patients with heart failure or impaired liver function may experience more severe effects and side effects from this medication and should take caution. This medication lowers blood pressure gradually, so it is not suitable for situations that require rapid blood pressure reduction. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is crucial to inform healthcare providers when taking it with grapefruit juice or certain antibiotics, antihypertensive drugs, immunosuppressants, etc. The safety of this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding is uncertain; therefore, it is recommended to avoid use except in special circumstances. It is advised to discontinue breastfeeding when taking this medication. Usage is recommended only for children aged 6 years and older, as its effectiveness and safety have not been established for younger ages. Elderly patients may be given the standard dosage, but caution should be taken to consider the potential for side effects based on their physical condition. In cases of overdose, blood pressure may drop too low, and heart rate may increase, potentially leading to shock, requiring immediate emergency treatment. This medication is not removed by dialysis, so alternative treatment methods should be used in case of overdose. Long-term use of this medication has not reported any risks of carcinogenicity or genetic mutation, and its blood pressure-lowering effect has been confirmed in both healthy adults and children.
