Treatment of gastrointestinal disorders such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis
This medication is used to treat ulcers occurring in the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It may also be administered to prevent Mendelson's syndrome before anesthesia, and is helpful in treating post-operative ulcers and gastric/duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is used to effectively improve major gastrointestinal disorders.
Usually, take 2 tablets orally twice daily regardless of meals, in the morning and before bedtime. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers: Administer 2 tablets twice daily, or 4 tablets once daily before bedtime. In particular, for duodenal ulcer patients, administer 4 tablets twice daily in the morning and before bedtime. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease: Take 2 tablets twice daily for 8 weeks or 4 tablets once daily before bedtime.
This medication should not be used in patients with severely impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to this medication or its components should avoid its use. It is also safe not to use this medication in patients with the rare blood disorder known as acute porphyria. Patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal tract surgery or women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as newborns and premature infants, should not be administered this drug. Patients on a potassium-restricted diet should use this medication with caution. Patients with liver dysfunction, those with a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, and those who have previously had kidney impairments should use this medication carefully. When taken with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, especially in the elderly or those with a history of peptic ulcers, the condition should be regularly monitored. This medication may mask symptoms of stomach cancer, so gastric ulcer patients or middle-aged patients who have newly developed or exacerbated dyspeptic symptoms should have malignant conditions ruled out before treatment. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori require treatment to eradicate the bacteria. Severe patients hospitalized in intensive care may be at risk of gastric stones, so caution is required. The aluminum component of this medication may bind with phosphates and interfere with phosphate absorption, so patients with phosphate deficiency should also be cautious. Patients who have difficulty swallowing may experience respiratory issues after taking this medication, so care is needed. During the use of this medication, severe allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock may occur rarely, and if such symptoms appear, one should stop taking it immediately and seek medical attention. If allergic symptoms such as skin rash, urticaria, angioedema, fever, bronchospasm, hypotension, chest pain occur, one should stop taking the medication and consult a doctor. Blood tests may reveal potential issues, so if symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, bleeding, or fever occur, one should get tested and discontinue the medication if necessary. If symptoms of liver dysfunction or jaundice appear, use should be stopped immediately. Cardiac arrhythmias or vasculitis have been reported rarely, so any abnormal symptoms should be discussed with a physician. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, and stool color may darken but usually does not require special treatment. Dizziness, drowsiness, mental confusion, seizures, insomnia, headache, heaviness, and malaise may occur as nervous system abnormalities, so caution is needed if these symptoms are present. Gynecomastia, excessive galactorrhea, erectile dysfunction, and decreased libido may occur very rarely. Muscle pain or joint pain may rarely occur, and in severe cases, rhabdomyolysis may develop, so if any abnormal symptoms arise, one should stop taking the medication immediately. Skin rashes or hair loss have been reported rarely, and the tongue may turn black, but this will return to normal over time. Do not use this medication for long periods, and if there is no therapeutic effect, it is advisable to switch to another medication. Elderly patients, those with chronic lung diseases, or diabetic patients may have an increased risk of pneumonia while taking this medication, so caution is advised. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs during treatment, it is wise to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if one is taking other medications, they should inform their doctor or pharmacist. In particular, dosages or intervals may need to be adjusted when taken with some antibiotics, anticonvulsants, or anticoagulants. It is safest for pregnant or nursing women to avoid this medication. Safety in children has not been established, so it is advisable not to administer it to children. This medication may cause false-positive results in urine protein tests, so caution is needed during testing. In case of overdose, emergency measures such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, so dosage should be adhered to.
