How to take

Adult dose

2.5 mg taken orally once daily as esamlodipine, which may be increased to a maximum of 5 mg per day depending on the patient's response. This medication should be taken with plenty of water.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients allergic to this drug or similar ingredients, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and women who are breastfeeding, patients in cardiogenic shock, patients with severe aortic stenosis, patients with unstable angina, patients who have recently had a myocardial infarction, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe hypotension, and patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic issues should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with very poor kidney function, elderly patients, those with acute heart failure, patients in hypertensive crisis, and those with mild to moderate liver dysfunction should be administered this medication with caution. This drug generally has good tolerability, but may cause side effects such as warmth and flushing, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headaches, abdominal pain, nausea, drowsiness, and ankle swelling. Rarely, dry mouth, increased sweating, hypotension, vasculitis, insomnia, skin rash, and liver function abnormalities have been reported; if these symptoms occur, consult a doctor immediately. Abrupt discontinuation of this medication may worsen symptoms, so it should be tapered off according to a physician's instructions, especially in heart failure patients or those with liver dysfunction. When taking this medication, it should be taken with plenty of water, and caution should be exercised when driving or operating hazardous machinery because dizziness or headaches may occur due to its blood pressure-lowering effects. This medication can interact with other drugs, so inform healthcare providers when taking diuretics, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, antibiotics, and hypoglycemic agents, and it is advisable to avoid concurrent use with grapefruit juice. If pregnant or breastfeeding, avoid use as safety has not been established, and it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding during treatment. For pediatric patients, use is recommended only for those aged 6 years and older, and elderly patients should start with a low dose due to the potential for increased drug concentration in the body. In case of overdose, severe hypotension and heart-related issues may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment, and this medication is not removed by dialysis, warranting caution. Finally, this medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and transferring it to other containers is not recommended.
