Precautions

This medication can cause serious allergic reactions, although rare, so if symptoms like skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention. This drug can cause serious side effects, including pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. If abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort appears after use, visit a hospital immediately. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, severe infections, or dehydration should not take this medication. Patients with heart-related diseases such as heart failure or acute myocardial infarction are also prohibited from taking this medication, and it should be discontinued before and after tests using iodinated contrast agents. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as those who are breastfeeding, should not take this medication. This medication may pose a higher risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis in patients with irregular meals, nutritional deficiencies, or engaging in intense exercise. Regular kidney function and blood tests should be conducted during treatment, especially in older adults or those with compromised kidney function, who require more careful management. Excessive alcohol consumption can induce a dangerous condition called lactic acidosis from this medication, so it should be avoided. If surgery is to be performed, this medication should be stopped 48 hours prior to surgery and resumed only after confirming that kidney function has returned to normal post-surgery. When used with other hypoglycemic agents, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, necessitating careful monitoring of blood sugar levels and potential dose adjustments as needed. Gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and headaches may occur during treatment, so consult a doctor if symptoms are severe. This medication can cause vitamin B12 deficiency in some patients, so it's advisable to regularly check vitamin B12 levels. If blisters or rashes develop on the skin during treatment, inform a doctor immediately, and consider discontinuing the medication if severe joint or muscle pain arises. In cases of overdose, general treatment can be undertaken, and blood dialysis can be performed to remove the drug if necessary, so care should be taken not to exceed the prescribed dose.
