Short-term adjunctive treatment for weight loss in patients with obesity
This medication is used as a short-term adjunct to a calorie-restricted weight loss regimen for obese patients with an initial body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, or for patients with BMI of 27 or more, who have risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia and who have not achieved effective results with appropriate dietary and exercise regimens. This drug should be used alone without combining it with other appetite suppressants and helps to improve health through weight loss.
Adults: The usual dose is 25 mg of diethylpropion hydrochloride orally 3 times a day, 1 hour before meals. The maximum daily dose is 75 mg, and the last dose should be taken at least 4 hours before bedtime. To minimize the potential for abuse, the initial dose (within the first 2 weeks) should be prescribed or dispensed at the lowest possible amount and adjusted individually to achieve an adequate response. This medicine should be taken for a short period (within 4 weeks). However, to reduce the risk of inappropriate use of this medicine, treatment may be continued if the patient achieves satisfactory weight loss within the first 4 weeks (a weight loss of at least 1.8 kg, or weight loss considered satisfactory by both the physician and the patient).
This drug should not be used in combination with other appetite suppressants and should only be used alone for a short duration. It is not recommended to combine this medication with other drugs for weight loss as it may not be safe. The effectiveness of this medication for weight loss is limited, and effects may diminish after a certain period. If tolerance develops, do not increase the dosage; instead, discontinue use. Long-term use may lead to drug abuse and dependence. If psychological dependence occurs, the dosage should be gradually reduced, as sudden discontinuation can lead to severe fatigue and depression. If symptoms associated with heart disease or pulmonary arterial hypertension occur, stop using it immediately and seek medical attention. This drug may rarely increase the risk of life-threatening pulmonary arterial hypertension, so caution is advised. There’s also a risk associated with valvular heart disease, and cardiac examination may be necessary before and during treatment. Patients with specific diseases such as hypertension, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, or mental disorders should not use this medication. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised not to use this drug, particularly in early pregnancy, and should make careful evaluations. Children under 16 years and elderly individuals with impaired kidney function should not take this medication. As this drug affects the central nervous system, caution is needed when driving or operating dangerous machinery. It may interact with other drugs, so inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medications. In case of overdose, severe toxicity symptoms and cardiovascular abnormalities may occur, so immediate medical attention is necessary. Keep this medication out of the reach of children and store it in a sealed container. This drug is classified as a controlled substance, and there is a risk of abuse and dependence, so it must be taken exactly as directed by healthcare professionals.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a sealed container. It is advisable to maintain a storage temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. This will help preserve the drug's effectiveness and safety for a longer period.
