Prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency
This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in the elderly, adolescents, and adults who lack vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential for maintaining bone health, and a deficiency can lead to osteoporosis or bone weakening. This medication supplements the deficient vitamin D, improving skeletal health and aiding normal calcium absorption. Thus, it helps to effectively prevent and treat health issues arising from vitamin D deficiency.
Adults receive an intramuscular injection of 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol. Annual dosage should not exceed 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol.
Adolescents receive an intramuscular injection of 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol.
This medication contains vitamin D, and it is important to check the total amount of vitamin D when using it together with fortified foods or other medications. Calcium levels in the blood should be regularly monitored, and if calcium levels are too high, the use of the medication should be stopped. If there is a high intake of calcium, it is crucial to frequently observe the calcium concentration in the blood and urine. Care should be taken to handle the injectable form carefully to avoid glass fragments, especially for children and the elderly. This medication should not be used in specific patients, such as those with hypercalcemia or kidney disease, pregnant or breastfeeding women, etc. Various side effects such as headaches, muscle pain, indigestion, dehydration, high blood pressure, and kidney issues may occur during treatment; therefore, if any abnormal symptoms arise, one should consult healthcare professionals. Regular tests of blood vitamin D and parathyroid hormone levels are necessary to maintain an appropriate dosage. Blood tests to check kidney function should be conducted every 3 to 6 months, and if kidney function declines, the dosage should be adjusted or stopped. When using other medications, interactions may occur; therefore, especially if taking anticonvulsants, diuretics, antacids, or warfarin, one should inform healthcare professionals. During pregnancy, overdosing should be avoided, and this medication is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. It is advisable not to use this medication in children under 12 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established. In case of overdose, immediately stop using this medication, reduce calcium intake, increase fluid intake, and adopt measures to promote diuresis. This medication should not be mixed with other medications, should be used quickly after opening, and any leftover should be discarded. When storing, it is important to keep it in a container that protects it from light and store it at a cool temperature between 1 degree and 25 degrees Celsius.
Headaches, weakness, fatigue, muscle pain, loss of appetite, weight loss, growth retardation, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, polyuria, dehydration, hypertension, calcium stones, tissue calcification in the kidneys and blood vessels, kidney dysfunction, excess bone calcification, arrhythmias, mental symptoms, awareness disorders, joint pain, myasthenia, drowsiness, azotemia, hypersensitivity reactions, thirst, confusion, gas bloating, abdominal pain, metallic taste, dry mouth, rash, itching, granulation at the injection site.

This medication may be sensitive to light, so it should be stored in a container that blocks light. Additionally, it is important to store it at a cool temperature between 1 degree and 25 degrees Celsius to maintain its effectiveness.
