Efficacy in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and Helicobacter pylori infection, as well as preventing recurrence of gastric ulcers
This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis, and is effective for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence. It is also used in combination with antibiotics for the treatment and recurrence prevention of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. It helps to treat and prevent upper gastrointestinal symptoms and related gastric ulcers caused by the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Moreover, it is applied in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy after the prevention of rebleeding from gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers. Thus, it is widely used for the treatment and symptom improvement of various gastrointestinal-related conditions.
This drug should be swallowed with liquid such as water and must not be chewed or crushed. 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If not treated or symptoms persist, continue for another 4 weeks. - Long-term maintenance therapy for recurrence prevention: 20 mg once daily. - Symptomatic treatment therapy: 20 mg once daily.
Adolescents over 12 years 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If not treated or symptoms persist, continue for another 4 weeks.
This medicine should not be administered to certain patients. For instance, patients with known allergies to this drug or its components, or those who have experienced hypersensitivity reactions to benzimidazoles, should not use it. Additionally, patients allergic to amoxicillin or clarithromycin, which are used in conjunction with this drug to eradicate Helicobacter pylori, should not take it. Women with a history of myocardial infarction or those who are breastfeeding should also refrain from using this medication. This drug may cause various adverse reactions, most commonly headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea, while less commonly blood abnormalities, allergic reactions, liver function abnormalities, and severe skin reactions have been reported. Particularly, long-term use may lead to hypomagnesemia, increased risk of fractures, and higher risk of gastrointestinal infections, thus regular monitoring is essential. This drug may interact with other medications, so caution is needed when taken with specific drugs. For example, co-administration with warfarin, methotrexate, or atazanavir may intensify side effects or alter efficacy. During pregnancy, the safety data of this drug is limited, so pregnant women should consult a doctor before use, and breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication. In case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, symptom-based treatment is crucial, and this drug is not removed through dialysis. Lastly, this drug should be stored out of reach of children, and care should be taken to maintain quality by not changing the storage container.
