This medication is used for the treatment of symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia.

How to take

Adult dose

As Donepezil Hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. Administer the 5 mg dosage for 4 to 6 weeks and evaluate clinical response before increasing to 10 mg. Care must be taken when increasing to a daily dose of 10 mg, monitoring for gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Underweight women over 85 years of age should not exceed 5 mg per day, and careful monitoring is necessary.

Child dose

No experience in pediatric use.

Precautions

This medication is based on Donepezil Hydrochloride and is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms. This medication should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to Donepezil Hydrochloride, piperidine derivatives, or any other ingredients in this medication. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women and breastfeeding women should also avoid taking this medication. Additionally, patients with lactose intolerance or genetic lactose breakdown disorders should not take this medication. Patients with heart disease or cardiac conduction disorders should use this medication cautiously as it may affect heart rhythm. Caution is also required for patients taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or with a history of peptic ulcers due to the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Individuals with asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should be careful as bronchoconstriction may worsen. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease should consult a physician before taking this medication as their symptoms may exacerbate. This medication contains the dye Yellow No. 5, and caution is required if there is an allergy to this component. Severe side effects that may occur during treatment include fainting, irregular heartbeat, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver dysfunction, cerebrovascular problems, movement disorders, severe muscle cramps, respiratory distress, acute pancreatitis, and acute renal failure, so if any symptoms occur, medical personnel should be informed immediately. Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. If the side effects are severe or persistent, a doctor should be consulted. This medication is not indicated for other types of dementia or memory disorders apart from Alzheimer's type dementia, and treatment should be conducted under the supervision of an experienced physician. Patients with heart disease or electrolyte irregularities may require regular ECG checks due to the risk of heart rhythm abnormalities. This medication may affect the ability to drive or operate machinery, so caution should be exercised when there are feelings of dizziness or fatigue early in treatment. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication, and if it is absolutely necessary, breastfeeding should be discontinued. This medication may interact with several other medications, so if other drugs are being taken, patients must inform their doctor or pharmacist.
