Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (in patients with type 2 diabetes)
This medication is used to effectively lower the blood pressure of patients with hypertension. It is particularly helpful in protecting the kidney function of patients who suffer from hypertension along with type 2 diabetes. This helps to slow down the progression of kidney disease and improves overall health. Therefore, it is used for the treatment of kidney disease caused by hypertension and diabetes.
This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time every day. For adults with hypertension, an initial and maintenance dose of 50 mg orally once a day is recommended. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the dose may be divided into twice daily dosing or increased up to 100 mg once daily. Patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes typically take 50 mg once daily, increasing to 100 mg once daily depending on blood pressure.
For children and adolescents aged over 6 years with a weight between 20 kg and 50 kg, the recommended dosage is 25 mg once daily, with a maximum increase up to 50 mg once daily. For patients weighing over 50 kg,
This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so women who are pregnant or could become pregnant should not take it. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function, those with hereditary angioedema, and those with primary hyperaldosteronism should also not take this drug. Elderly patients or those with hyperkalemia, liver disease, heart disease, or kidney disease should use this drug with caution, and blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte status should be monitored frequently during treatment. This drug is generally well tolerated, but side effects such as dizziness, headache, muscle pain, cough, and dyspepsia may occur, and in rare cases, serious adverse reactions such as angioedema, hepatitis, and renal failure may occur. Blood pressure may drop too low or shock symptoms may appear, so the patient's condition should be closely monitored at the start of treatment or when increasing the dose. This drug can cause a dangerous increase in blood potassium levels when taken together with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements, so coadministration should be avoided. Also, interactions may occur when taken with other antihypertensives, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), lithium, etc., so be sure to consult a physician or pharmacist. Newborns exposed to this drug during pregnancy may have issues such as hypotension and reduced kidney function, so careful observation is needed after birth. Breastfeeding women are advised to avoid taking this drug; if it must be taken, breastfeeding should be discontinued. This drug is not used in children, especially those under 6 years old or those with severely impaired kidney function. During this medication, symptoms such as dizziness or drowsiness may occur, so care should be taken when driving or operating machinery. In cases of overdose, hypotension and bradycardia may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought.
