Improvement of blood pressure control in cases of hypertension where monotherapy is inadequate
This medication is used for patients with hypertension whose blood pressure is insufficiently controlled by monotherapy.
The usual dosage for adults is 50 mg of Losartan Potassium/12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide once daily. The maximum dose is 100 mg of Losartan Potassium/25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide once daily. Patients whose blood pressure is not controlled with monotherapy of Losartan or Hydrochlorothiazide should start with 50 mg of Losartan Potassium/12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide once daily, and after 3 weeks if blood pressure is still not controlled, it can be increased to the maximum of 100 mg of Losartan Potassium/25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide once daily.
There is no experience using this medication in children and adolescents (under 18 years old), so it should not be administered.
This medication can cause serious harm, particularly to the fetus and newborn during pregnancy, and should not be administered to pregnant women or women of childbearing potential. Patients who are hypersensitive to this medication, have certain kidney and liver diseases, have electrolyte imbalances, or have specific genetic conditions should avoid taking it. Patients in a state of hypotension or with problems in kidney or liver function should use this medication cautiously, and elderly patients or those with specific blood disorders or a history of skin cancer also require caution. During treatment with this medication, blood pressure, kidney function, electrolyte levels, etc. should be regularly monitored to check for adverse reactions or side effects. This medication may affect serum potassium levels, so potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications should not be taken together without consulting a physician. If any unusual symptoms appear during treatment such as dizziness, drowsiness, skin rash, or breathing difficulties, medical personnel should be informed immediately. This medication may react sensitively to sunlight, so it is important to avoid prolonged sun exposure and take appropriate measures to protect the skin. If pregnant or breastfeeding, a consultation with a doctor is essential, and medication may need to be discontinued or breastfeeding stopped if necessary. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. Interactions with other medications may occur during treatment with this medication, so all medications being taken should be disclosed to medical personnel, particularly when taking specific diuretics, antihypertensives, hypoglycemic agents, anticoagulants, etc.
