This medication is used for the treatment and symptom relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly erosive esophagitis. It is also effective in the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It temporarily alleviates upper gastrointestinal symptoms associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use, and helps in the treatment and prevention of related gastric ulcers. It also applies to the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and is used as maintenance therapy to prevent re-bleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers. Thus, it is widely used for the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal disorders.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in certain patients. Patients who have a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to this drug, its ingredients, or similar classes of drugs should avoid taking it. Additionally, this medication should not be used by patients who are taking certain antibiotics or antiviral medications, as well as nursing women or patients with a history of heart disease. This drug contains a coloring agent called Yellow No. 5, so those allergic to this component should use it with caution. Various side effects may occur during use, including headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhea, skin rash, and muscle pain. Rarely, blood abnormalities, severe allergic reactions, impaired liver function, and neurological symptoms may occur, so if abnormal symptoms arise, consult a physician immediately. Regular examination is necessary for long-term use, especially if taken for more than one year, as there may be an increased risk of hypomagnesemia or fractures.
