This medication is used in conjunction with dietary therapy to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, including familial or non-familial hypercholesterolemia, as well as mixed hyperlipidemia, while increasing levels of good cholesterol (HDL). It is also administered as an adjunct or alternative treatment for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia to effectively control blood cholesterol levels. This medication helps improve lipid levels in patients at risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. Prior to treatment, secondary causes such as diabetes or hypothyroidism should be identified and treated if necessary, and this medication is used when responses to dietary modifications and non-drug therapies are insufficient. Regular monitoring of total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglyceride levels is advised, particularly using accurate measurement methods when triglycerides are elevated. This medication plays a positive role in preventing cardiovascular disease and improving lipid abnormalities.

How to take

For patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10 mg to 10/40 mg per day, and the generally recommended initial dose is 10/20 mg daily. Precautions

This medication is used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. Caution is required as muscle-related problems such as myalgia or muscle weakness may occur when taking this medication. In particular, the risk of muscle damage may be higher when taken in high doses, so consult a physician immediately if any abnormal symptoms arise. Patients with liver dysfunction or liver disease should avoid taking this medication. Pregnant or nursing women should also not use this medication. Furthermore, this medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers about any medications currently being taken. Especially, taking it with certain antibiotics, antifungals, immunosuppressants, or antivirals may increase the risk of muscle damage. It is advisable to regularly monitor liver function and muscle enzyme levels through blood tests while taking this medication. Elderly patients may respond more sensitively to this medication, so caution is necessary during use. Lastly, immediately inform a physician if unexplained muscle pain or weakness occurs during treatment, and do not discontinue the medication without following the healthcare provider's instructions.
