Improvement of hypercholesterolemia (primary and mixed type) and suppression of the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease
This medication helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, and increase HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly heterozygous familial and non-familial, or mixed dyslipidemia. It is mainly used as an adjunct to dietary therapy, and it is important to accompany it with appropriate dietary control, including limiting saturated fat and cholesterol intake. Furthermore, treatment is conducted considering multiple risk factors to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease caused by hypercholesterolemia. Before taking this medication, it is recommended to identify and treat other causes that may induce dyslipidemia, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, if necessary. During treatment, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglyceride levels should be regularly checked to evaluate effectiveness. This medication is used to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease by improving abnormal blood lipid levels.
This medication is administered once daily regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, it is administered in the range of 10/5mg to 10/20mg daily, with an initial recommended dose of 10/5mg per day. If more significant reduction of LDL cholesterol is required, the dosage can be adjusted. After starting treatment or adjusting the dosage, blood lipid levels should be checked at intervals of at least 4 weeks, with a maximum daily dose of 10/20mg.
This medication can rarely cause severe damage to muscle tissue, leading to renal function issues, so if symptoms of muscle pain or weakness appear, consult a doctor immediately. This medication may affect liver function, so it should not be administered to patients with liver disease or elevated liver enzyme levels, and liver function tests should be conducted regularly during treatment. It is safer not to use this medication in patients with certain genetic disorders, liver, or kidney diseases, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid its use. Elderly patients, those with a history of alcoholism, and patients with hypothyroidism who have a higher risk of myopathy should use this medication with caution and undergo regular check-ups as directed by a doctor. This medication may interact with other drugs, so patients should inform healthcare providers about any other medications they are taking, especially if combining with anticoagulants or specific antibiotics and antifungals. During the course of this medication, if severe muscle pain, muscle cramps, fatigue, fever, or similar symptoms occur, immediately notify healthcare providers and undergo examination. This medication may cause dizziness when driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised during these activities. It is recommended not to use this medication in children, as safety and efficacy have not been established. This medication must be taken according to a physician's prescription and instructions, and it should be stored out of reach of children.
