Improvement of cholesterol and lipids in hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and mixed hyperlipidemia
This medication is used to reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia, and mixed hyperlipidemia, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. Additionally, it is used as an adjunct therapy to reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia either in combination with other lipid-lowering therapies or when these therapies are ineffective. It is important to use this medication in conjunction with an appropriate diet and to confirm and treat other causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, if necessary, before use. Regular checks of blood lipid levels should be conducted before and after treatment, and particularly for patients with acute coronary incidents, lipid testing is recommended upon admission or within 24 hours post-admission. Overall, this medication helps reduce the risk of vascular diseases due to hypercholesterolemia and related lipid disorders and improves the patient's health status.
This medication is taken once daily in the evening, regardless of meals. For patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10mg to 10/40mg daily, and the generally recommended initial dose is 10/20mg daily. Patients with lesser need for LDL cholesterol reduction may start at 10/10mg daily. The recommended dose for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10/40mg daily, taken once in the evening.
This medication is primarily used to lower blood cholesterol levels. Caution is necessary as muscle abnormalities may occur while taking this medication. If symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness arise, it is crucial to inform your doctor immediately, as severe cases may lead to muscle damage, necessitating immediate discontinuation of the drug. Furthermore, this medication can affect liver function, and it should not be used by patients with liver disease or elevated liver enzymes. Regular liver function tests are required, and if any abnormal symptoms occur, consultation with a physician is essential. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, as it can be harmful to both the fetus and infant. If there is a plan for pregnancy or if pregnancy is confirmed, inform your doctor, and breastfeeding should be discontinued. Be aware that the risk of side effects can significantly increase when this medication is taken concurrently with certain drugs, so it's essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications. Particular attention is necessary when used with drugs that inhibit liver enzyme metabolism, specific antibiotics, antifungals, immunosuppressants, and anticoagulants. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function require closer monitoring while using this medication. Regular blood tests are recommended to check liver function and muscle enzyme levels during treatment. In case of overdose, since no specific antidote exists, immediate medical assistance should be sought for proper treatment.
