Treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease
This medicine is used for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.
Treatment must be initiated by a physician experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's dementia, and only if the caregiver can regularly verify the patient's medication intake. This medicine can be taken regardless of food intake. The maximum daily dose is 20 mg, and it should be increased by 5 mg weekly over the first 3 weeks. - First week (day 1-7): 5 mg administered once daily. - Second week (day 8-14): 10 mg (5 mg twice daily) administered for 7 days. - Third week (day 15-21): 15 mg (10 mg in the morning, 5 mg in the evening) administered for 7 days. - From the fourth week: 20 mg (10 mg twice daily) administered.
This medicine should not be used in patients who are allergic to its components. It is also safe not to administer it to patients with severely impaired liver function or very poor kidney function. Caution should be exercised when using this medicine in patients with epilepsy or those who have previously experienced seizures, or have a predisposition to seizures. Concurrent use with other drugs that have similar effects may exacerbate central nervous system side effects, so combinations should be avoided. Patients with conditions where urine acidity may change or those with urinary tract infections should be closely monitored. For patients with heart disease or uncontrolled hypertension, caution is needed as the safety of this medicine has not been sufficiently established. Side effects such as dizziness, headache, constipation, drowsiness, and hypertension may appear, so symptoms should be carefully observed. As this medicine can interact with other drugs, especially antipsychotics, muscle relaxants, and anticoagulants, consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is necessary when taking these together. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult a doctor before using this medicine, and breastfeeding women are advised to discontinue breastfeeding. It is recommended not to use this medicine in children or adolescents under 18 years of age as its safety and efficacy have not been established. Overdosing on this medicine can result in central nervous system symptoms or gastrointestinal symptoms, so it is essential to adhere to the prescribed dosage and seek medical attention immediately in case of overdose. This medicine may affect reaction times, so caution is required when driving or operating machinery. Keep out of the reach of children and do not transfer the medicine to other containers, as this is important for maintaining the quality of the medicine.
