Improvement of cholesterol and lipids in hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and mixed hyperlipidemia
This medicine is used in conjunction with diet for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia to help lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, ApoB protein, and triglyceride levels in the blood, while helping to increase levels of HDL cholesterol, which is known as good cholesterol. Additionally, for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it can be used as an adjunct or alone to effectively manage cholesterol levels. This medicine plays an important role in reducing the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease caused by hypercholesterolemia and should be used alongside appropriate dietary modification and other non-drug therapies. Furthermore, it is important to identify and treat secondary causes first, and regular lipid testing is necessary during the treatment process. Through comprehensive management, it effectively improves lipid levels in the blood.
This medication should be administered once daily in the evening, regardless of meals. For patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is from 10/10 mg to 10/40 mg daily, and the generally recommended initial dosage is 10/20 mg per day. Patients who require less reduction in LDL cholesterol can start with 10/10 mg daily. After starting administration or adjusting the dosage, blood lipid levels should be confirmed at intervals of more than 4 weeks before adjusting the dose.
This medication is used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. Symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness may occur while taking this medication, so caution is necessary. If unexplained muscle aches or weakness occur, you should notify your doctor immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with impaired liver function, active liver disease, and in pregnant or nursing women. Additionally, co-administration with certain medications may increase the risk of muscle damage, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications. Co-administering this medication with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, gemfibrozil, cyclosporine, danazol, and some calcium channel blockers may increase the risk of adverse effects, so such co-administration may be contraindicated or require dose adjustment. Grapefruit juice may also increase the blood concentration of this medication, so it is advisable to avoid consuming it in large amounts. Patients who take this medication are advised to have regular blood sugar tests as it may increase blood sugar levels, especially in elderly patients or those at risk for diabetes. Additionally, regular tests of liver function and muscle-related tests while taking this medication are recommended. Patients taking this medication should always inform healthcare providers of this when being prescribed new medications and should consult medical personnel immediately if they experience any unusual symptoms. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so you should seek immediate medical attention.
