This medication is used to treat narcolepsy and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents aged 6 years and older. ADHD is diagnosed when symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness are consistently present in two or more settings and cause disruption in daily life. It is important that this medication is not used alone and is administered in conjunction with psychological, educational, and social treatments, prescribed based on a professional evaluation tailored to the patient's symptoms and condition. It helps effectively improve ADHD symptoms and control narcolepsy.

Precautions

This medication should be avoided in individuals with heart problems or cardiovascular diseases. It is especially safe not to administer it to children or adolescents with heart abnormalities, and adults at high risk for heart disease. Individuals with high blood pressure or those whose blood pressure and heart rate fluctuate easily should regularly monitor their blood pressure and pulse while using this medication. If there is a family history of heart disease or suspicious symptoms, a cardiac examination should be conducted prior to administration, and if symptoms such as chest pain or fainting occur during treatment, medical evaluation should be sought immediately. Patients with mental illness should be cautious, as their symptoms may worsen when taking this medication. A psychiatric evaluation is important before treatment, especially for patients with bipolar disorder, as symptoms of depression and mania may appear. This medication can induce psychosis or manic symptoms; if these appear, treatment should be stopped, and a healthcare provider should be consulted. Additionally, aggressive or hostile behaviors may develop, so such behavioral changes should be monitored. Long-term use may impact growth in children, so careful observation of weight and height changes is necessary. Patients with a history of seizures or abnormal EEG readings may have an increased risk of seizures, requiring careful use. Peripheral vascular disorders, particularly Raynaud's phenomenon affecting blood circulation in the fingers, may occur, so hand conditions should be checked regularly. Visual disturbances may occur rarely, so any eye abnormalities should be reported. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 5 years of age. There is a potential for drug dependence, so dosage should not be changed arbitrarily, and abuse should be avoided. Persistent painful erections may occur, so if these symptoms arise, medical assistance should be sought immediately. Individuals allergic to this medication or those in states of severe anxiety, tension, or excitement, individuals with glaucoma, tics disorders, or those taking MAO inhibitors or suffering from hyperthyroidism should not use this medication. Pregnant women should only use it when necessary under a doctor's evaluation and should discontinue breastfeeding if taking this medication. Elderly patients may have diminished physiological function, requiring cautious use with possible dosage reductions. Overdose may result in central nervous system hyperexcitability, heart problems, seizures, etc., thus immediate emergency treatment is necessary. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container. Regular blood tests, mental status assessments, and heart condition checks during treatment are essential. Caution is advised while driving or operating machinery due to possible dizziness. This medication may interact with other drugs, so any concurrent medications should be disclosed to a doctor or pharmacist. Alcohol can exacerbate central nervous system side effects, so it is best to avoid it during treatment.
