This medication is used to treat hypertension and stable angina, as well as myocardial ischemia caused by coronary vasospasm. It also helps to reduce the risk of hospitalization for patients with angina without heart failure and an ejection fraction of more than 40% diagnosed with coronary artery disease, and it aids in reducing the risks associated with coronary artery revascularization. Through these effects, it effectively manages cardiovascular diseases and improves patients' health conditions.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 5mg once daily by mouth as amlodipine and it can be increased to a maximum of 10mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjust as appropriate based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Do not take this drug if you have allergies to this medication or similar medications, if you are nursing, if you have very poor liver function or severe heart valve problems, or if you are in a state of shock. Additionally, patients with severe hypotension, very poor kidney function, the elderly, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication cautiously. This drug is generally well tolerated, but common side effects may include flushing, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, nausea, weakness, lethargy, pain, weight gain/loss, hypotension, vascular inflammation, tension increase, sensory decrease/sensory abnormalities, peripheral neuropathy, fainting, taste alterations, tremors, extrapyramidal disorders, erectile dysfunction, gynecomastia, changes in bowel habits, dry mouth, dyspepsia (gastritis), gingival hypertrophy, pancreatitis, vomiting, hyperglycemia, joint pain, low back pain, muscle cramps, and muscle pain. Rarely, blood pressure may drop excessively or various side effects such as skin rash, hair loss, joint pain, muscle pain, insomnia, cough, and liver function abnormalities may occur. If any abnormal symptoms occur, consult a physician. Patients with significantly decreased cardiac function or impaired liver function may require careful monitoring as the effectiveness of this medication may change. This drug lowers blood pressure slowly and is not suitable for urgent cardiac conditions requiring rapid treatment. While it is generally known not to significantly affect driving or machine operation ability, caution is required as it may vary by individual. This medication may interact with several other medications. Particularly, concomitant use with grapefruit juice may lead to excessive blood pressure-lowering effects, so it is advisable not to use them together. Additionally, caution should be exercised when taken with certain antibiotics, immunosuppressants, and statin drugs, and patients must inform their physician or pharmacist of all medications they are currently taking. Safety during pregnancy has not been established, and it is advisable not to use it unless special circumstances exist. During breastfeeding, it is recommended to discontinue nursing while taking this medication. In children, it should only be used from age 6 and above, as its effectiveness and safety have not been confirmed in younger children. Elderly patients can also be administered the standard dosage, but adjustments may be needed depending on their condition. In cases of overdose, blood pressure may drop excessively, and arrhythmias may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis, so special treatment is necessary in cases of overdose, and in severe cases, vasopressors or calcium gluconate administration may be helpful.
