Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (in patients with type 2 diabetes)
This medication lowers blood pressure in patients with hypertension, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes, it helps to prevent or slow the progression of kidney disease. Therefore, it is effectively used for treating cardiovascular issues related to hypertension and kidney disease.
This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time every day. For hypertension treatment, it is recommended to take Losartan Potassium as an oral dose of 50 mg once daily. If necessary, it can be divided into two doses per day or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. For treatment of kidney disease in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes, it is recommended to take 50 mg once daily and can be increased to 100 mg depending on blood pressure.

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus, especially when taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Therefore, it should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. This medication is contraindicated in patients with certain conditions. For example, patients allergic to this drug or its ingredients, those with severe liver dysfunction, patients with hereditary angioedema, and patients with primary hyperaldosteronism should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with diabetes or moderate to severe kidney dysfunction should not use this medication in combination with certain drugs. Elderly patients, patients with hyperkalemia, and those with mild to moderate liver dysfunction should be especially cautious when administering this medication and their condition should be closely monitored to prevent excessively low blood pressure. Generally, this medication is well-tolerated, but side effects such as muscle cramps, dizziness, upper respiratory infections, and nasal congestion may occur. Rarely, serious adverse reactions have been reported, including angioedema, liver function abnormalities, myalgia, hyperkalemia, and hypotension, requiring caution. During treatment with this medication, regular checks of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels are necessary to ensure there are no abnormalities. Particularly, taking this medication in conjunction with potassium-sparing agents or potassium-containing salt substitutes may dangerously increase blood potassium levels, so this combination should be avoided. This medication may interact with other antihypertensive agents or certain analgesics, anticoagulants, etc., so if other medications are being taken, consult with a doctor or pharmacist. Breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication; if it is absolutely necessary to take it, breastfeeding should be discontinued. Do not administer to children under 6 years of age or to children and adolescents with severe kidney dysfunction. In the event of an overdose, hypotension and tachycardia may occur, and immediate medical treatment is required as this medication cannot be removed by dialysis. During treatment, precautions should be taken as dizziness or drowsiness may occur while driving or operating machinery. Finally, keep this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), profound lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances.
