This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of erosive esophagitis. It is also effective for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers due to Helicobacter pylori infection. It assists in the short-term treatment of upper gastrointestinal symptoms caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as the treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is also utilized for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy after preventing rebleeding from gastric and duodenal ulcers. Overall, it is used for alleviating symptoms and preventing recurrence of various gastrointestinal diseases.

Dosage and Administration

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients allergic or hypersensitive to this drug or its components, those allergic to penicillin antibiotics or macrolide antibiotics, patients on certain cardiac-related medications, nursing women, and patients with a history of myocardial infarction should not take this medication. When taking this medication, various side effects may occur. Commonly, headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and vomiting may occur, and rarely, decreased blood cell counts, allergic reactions, liver dysfunction, skin rashes, myalgia, and neurological symptoms may also appear. Particularly, long-term use of this medication may lead to electrolyte abnormalities such as hypomagnesemia, necessitating regular blood tests. Additionally, since this medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, it may increase the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract; if diarrhea symptoms persist, consulting a physician is advised. This medication can interact with numerous other medications, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications. Caution is required when combined with medications affecting blood coagulation, antivirals, antibiotics, and certain psychiatric medications. Pregnant or nursing women should consult with their doctor before taking this medication, and particularly during breastfeeding, it is advisable to avoid taking it. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so it is important to monitor symptoms and receive general treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided as it may negatively affect quality.

  • Severe allergic reactions such as urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis reaction/shock,
  • Severe cutaneous reactions including fever with severe rash, blisters, skin peeling, mucous membrane pain in the mouth/eyes,
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by coughing and fever,
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), very profound lethargy indicative of liver dysfunction,
  • Sudden and extremely severe headaches, thunderclap headache, seizures.

  • Blood and lymphatic system: leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia
  • Immune system: fever, angioedema, hypersensitivity reactions
  • Metabolism/Nutrition: peripheral edema, hyponatremia, hypomagnesemia
  • Psychiatric system: insomnia, agitation, confusion, depression, aggression, hallucinations
  • Nervous system: headaches, dizziness, sensory disturbances, drowsiness, taste disorders
  • Vision: blurred vision
  • Auditory and vestibular system: dizziness
  • Respiratory system: bronchospasm
  • Gastrointestinal system: pancreatitis, abdominal pain,
