Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive reflux esophagitis), treatment and prevention of recurrence of Helicobacter pylori positive peptic ulcers, relief of gastrointestinal symptoms related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics, treatment and prevention of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding.
This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, especially erosive reflux esophagitis, and to prevent the recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It also alleviates symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is effective in treating duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori infection and preventing their recurrence. It is also used for relief of upper gastrointestinal symptoms related to the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics and treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is applicable for maintenance therapy following prevention of rebleeding caused by intravenous-induced gastric or duodenal ulcers. Overall, this medication effectively improves gastrointestinal diseases and ulcer-related issues.
This medication must be swallowed with liquids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of esophagitis: 20 mg once daily - Treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily - As needed once daily
Adolescents aged 12 years and older - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease - Erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - Treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily
This medication should not be used by patients who have had allergic reactions or hypersensitivity to certain ingredients or benzimidazoles. Additionally, patients allergic to antibiotics such as amoxicillin or clarithromycin should not be given this medication when used in combination for Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy. This medication is also contraindicated in patients with a history of certain antiviral treatments or heart diseases, and in breastfeeding women. Since this medication contains lactose, those with lactose intolerance or specific metabolic disorders should avoid taking it. While taking this medication, various adverse reactions such as blood-related issues, allergic reactions, electrolyte imbalances, neurological symptoms, and gastrointestinal problems may occur rarely, so if any unusual symptoms appear, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Long-term use of this medication requires regular examinations, especially electrolyte tests such as magnesium levels if used for more than one year. This medication may increase the risk of infections as it reduces stomach acid and allows bacterial growth; therefore, if diarrhea persists, medical personnel should be notified. This medication may interact with other drugs, so current medications should be disclosed to a physician or pharmacist, particularly when taken with anticoagulants, antibiotics, antivirals, anticonvulsants, etc. Safety data for this medication during pregnancy is limited; therefore, it should be used cautiously after consulting a doctor if pregnant. Breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication and should always consult with a medical professional.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, anaphylaxis, shock, severe allergic reactions, jaundice, hepatitis, liver failure, encephalopathy, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), rhabdomyolysis, severe edema, consciousness confusion, seizures, severe neurological symptoms, thunderclap headache, severe hypomagnesemia
