Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive esophagitis), treatment and prevention of recurrence of Helicobacter pylori-induced peptic ulcers, relief of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, treatment and prevention of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, maintenance therapy for the prevention of rebleeding from gastric ulcers.
This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis and for preventing recurrence. It is also effective in treating and preventing recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers associated with eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori. In addition, it helps treat and prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers related to upper gastrointestinal symptoms that occur during NSAID use. It is also used for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for preventing rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers. Overall, it demonstrates excellent efficacy in the treatment and management of gastrointestinal diseases.
This medication should be swallowed with liquid, such as water, and should not be chewed or crushed. 1. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: Administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If erosive esophagitis is not resolved or symptoms persist, extend treatment for another 4 weeks. - Long-term maintenance therapy for preventing recurrence in patients with esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. - Symptomatic treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, additional medical consultation is required. Once symptoms improve, continue with 20 mg once daily to manage ongoing symptoms. In adults, 20 mg can be taken as needed once daily. For patients with a high risk of gastric and duodenal ulcers due to NSAID use, it is not recommended to take on an as-needed basis to manage ongoing symptoms. 2) Combination therapy with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori Take this medication 20 mg together with 1 g amoxicillin and 500 mg clarithromycin, twice daily for 7 days. 3) Short-term treatment for upper gastrointestinal symptoms (pain, discomfort, burning sensation) associated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use - 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, additional medical consultation is needed. No clinical trials have been conducted beyond 4 weeks. 4) Patients requiring continuous NSAID therapy - Treatment of gastric ulcers associated with NSAID use: 20 mg once daily for a treatment period of 4-8 weeks. - Prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers associated with NSAID use: 20 mg once daily. 5) Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome The recommended initial dose is 40 mg administered twice daily. Subsequent dosages should be adjusted for individual patients, and therapy should continue as long as clinical symptoms are present. Clinical data suggest that most patients can be controlled at dosages of 80 to 160 mg per day. Dosages above 80 mg per day should be divided into twice daily doses. 6) Maintenance therapy following intravenous prophylaxis for rebleeding due to gastric or duodenal ulcers After prophylactic intravenous treatment for rebleeding, take 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. 2. Adolescents aged 12 and older 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: Administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If erosive esophagitis is not resolved or symptoms persist, extend treatment for another 4 weeks. - Symptomatic treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: · 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, additional medical consultation is required. · Once symptoms improve, adjust ongoing symptoms with 20 mg once daily. In adults, it can be taken as needed with 20 mg once daily when necessary. For patients with a high risk of gastric and duodenal ulcer development due to NSAID use, it is not recommended to take on an as-needed basis to manage ongoing symptoms. 3. Children under 12 years There is no experience in administering this medication to children under 12 years. 4. Renal impairment No dosage adjustment is necessary. There are few cases involving severely impaired renal patients, so it should be used with caution. 5. Hepatic dysfunction For patients with mild to moderate liver impairment, no dosage adjustment is necessary. In severe liver impairment, this medication should not exceed 20 mg. 6. The elderly No dosage adjustment is necessary.
Adolescents 12 years and older - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: Take 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily For children under 12 years, there is no experience in administering this medication.
This medication should not be used by patients with allergies or hypersensitivity to specific ingredients. Also, caution is needed as there may be side effects or interactions when taken with certain antibiotics or antivirals. Women who are breastfeeding and patients with a history of heart disease should avoid taking this medication. This medication contains lactose, making it unsuitable for patients with lactose intolerance. While taking this medication, various side effects such as headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and dizziness may occur; if symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a doctor immediately. Long-term use may require regular testing such as blood tests or monitoring magnesium levels. This medication can slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract by lowering acidity, so inform your healthcare provider if diarrhea symptoms do not improve. Long-term use may increase the risk of fractures, so patients at risk for osteoporosis should exercise caution. This medication may interact with other medications, so be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications. During pregnancy, the safety of this medication has not been fully established, so it should be taken only under the guidance of a doctor when necessary. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes; appropriate treatment should be provided according to symptoms, and it is important to keep it out of children's reach.
Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic reaction, shock, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis, DRESS syndrome, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, jaundice, hepatitis, hepatic failure, encephalopathy, sudden severe headache, seizures, consciousness confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, rhabdomyolysis, hypomagnesemia, hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, increased blood pressure, significant decrease in urine output
