Improvement of urinary disorders associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia
This medication is used to improve urinary disorders caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, specifically symptoms such as frequent urination or difficulty urinating.
Adults: Administer orally either 1 tablet of 4 mg per dose twice daily after breakfast and dinner, or 2 tablets of 4 mg (8 mg) once daily with a meal. However, increased plasma concentrations of silodosin have been reported in patients with renal impairment, and plasma concentrations may also increase in patients with hepatic impairment. Therefore, monitor the patient's condition and adjust the dose appropriately according to symptoms, such as starting at a low dose (2 mg per dose, twice daily).
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For instance, patients who are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medication or those with severely impaired kidney function, significantly reduced liver function, or who are taking certain powerful medications should not take this drug. Additionally, patients with symptoms of orthostatic hypotension or issues with liver and kidney function, and those taking various other medications should use this drug cautiously. While taking this medication, various side effects may occur. The most common side effects include ejaculation disorders, dry mouth, diarrhea, dizziness, nasal congestion, headaches, etc. In severe cases, syncope or liver dysfunction may occur, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, consultation with a doctor should be sought immediately. This medication can lower blood pressure; therefore, patients taking antihypertensive medications should carefully monitor changes in blood pressure, and adjustments may be necessary if blood pressure drops too low. During treatment, there is a risk of dizziness or syncope due to sudden changes in body position. It is advisable to move slowly when getting up. This medication is used for symptomatic relief rather than causal treatment; if ineffective, other treatment options such as surgery should be considered. Furthermore, it is crucial to confirm the absence of prostate cancer before taking this medication, and caution is required when co-administering with other alpha-blockers or PDE5 inhibitors. In older adults, liver and kidney functions may be impaired, so treatment should start at a low dose and closely monitored based on the patient's condition. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers. Lastly, while some abnormal findings have been reported in animal studies regarding the long-term use of this medication, the carcinogenic potential in humans has not been confirmed.
