Treatment and prevention of recurrence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive esophagitis), treatment and prevention of recurrence of Helicobacter pylori-positive peptic ulcer, etc., and relief of upper gastrointestinal symptoms related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
This medication is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis, and for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrences in patients with esophagitis. It is also effective for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It is applicable for the treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers associated with upper gastrointestinal symptoms occurring due to the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is used for maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of bleeding from gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers and also for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Overall, it is utilized to improve various symptoms and diseases associated with gastrointestinal disorders.
This medication should be swallowed with liquids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - If esophagitis is untreated or symptoms persist, an additional 4 weeks of treatment - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of esophagitis: 20 mg once daily - Treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: once daily,
Adolescents aged 12 years and older - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - If esophagitis is untreated or symptoms persist, an additional 4 weeks of treatment
This medication should not be administered to patients with known specific allergic reactions. For instance, if there is a hypersensitivity to this medication or its components, or if there was a history of allergy to benzimidazole derivatives. Additionally, this medication may cause hypersensitivity reactions when used in combination with certain antibiotics, so patients with allergies to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics should exercise caution. Rarely, various side effects such as blood disorders, allergic reactions, hypomagnesemia may occur during the use of this medication, so if any unusual symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a physician should be sought. It is essential to undergo regular health check-ups during long-term use, particularly for those taking the medication for more than one year; regular blood tests, including magnesium levels, should be conducted. Since this medication suppresses gastric acid, it may promote bacterial growth in the stomach, so if diarrhea or symptoms of gastrointestinal infection persist, it should be reported to healthcare personnel. Also, patients with osteoporosis or those at risk of fractures may have an increased risk of fractures during long-term use of this medication, requiring appropriate monitoring, including bone density testing. This medication may interact with certain other drugs, therefore, current medications must be disclosed to a physician or pharmacist. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult with healthcare personnel before taking this medication, and it is advisable to avoid its use while breastfeeding. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, and symptomatic treatment should be provided; keep the medication out of reach of children.
