Adult dosage
This medication should be swallowed whole with fluids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. The standard dosage is 20 mg once daily. - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) erosive reflux esophagitis: Administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If symptoms persist, an additional 4 weeks may be required. - Long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. - Treatment of symptoms in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not adequately controlled after 4 weeks, further medical consultation is needed. - Once symptoms are alleviated, adjust the dosage of 20 mg once daily for ongoing symptoms. In adults, 20 mg can be taken once daily as needed. It is not recommended to administer as needed for continuous symptom control in patients at high risk of gastric and duodenal ulcers due to NSAID administration.
Children's dosage
Children aged 12 and older take the same dosage as adults. There is no experience with administration in children under 12 years, so it is not recommended.

This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly erosive reflux esophagitis, and for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It also helps alleviate symptoms in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease who do not have esophagitis. It is effective in combination therapy with antibiotics for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. It is also utilized for the treatment of upper gastrointestinal symptoms due to the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and for the treatment and prevention of related gastric and duodenal ulcers. Additionally, it is used for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and maintenance therapy after episodes of rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers. This medication is effective for the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal diseases.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to certain components or benzimidazole derivatives. In addition, it should be avoided in patients with allergies to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics, or those taking certain heart-related medications. It is preferable that breastfeeding women and patients with a history of myocardial infarction do not use this medication. This medication contains the dye Yellow No. 5, which may cause allergic reactions in those sensitive to it. Various side effects such as headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and skin rash can occur, so immediately consult a doctor if any unusual symptoms appear. Regular check-ups are important during long-term use to monitor health status. This medication can reduce stomach acid, potentially increasing bacterial growth in the stomach, hence the risk of infection may increase, so it is important to inform healthcare personnel if diarrhea symptoms persist. Patients with osteoporosis or those at high risk of fractures should be cautious as the risk of fractures may increase with long-term use. This medication may interact with other drugs, so inform healthcare personnel of any medications being taken, especially when combined with anticoagulants or certain antiviral agents. Due to limited safety data during pregnancy, it should only be used when absolutely necessary, and it is advisable to avoid use while breastfeeding.

Serious side effects

Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, anaphylaxis reaction/shock, severe allergic reaction, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, oral/ocular mucosal pain, severe skin reactions, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), shortness of breath or breathing difficulties

Mild side effects

Headache, dizziness, sensory disturbances, drowsiness, taste disorder, blurred vision, bronchospasm, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, stomatitis, gastrointestinal candidiasis, elevated liver enzymes, hepatitis, dermatitis, itching, rash, hair loss, photosensitivity, erythema multiforme, fractures, arthralgia, myalgia, muscle weakness, interstitial nephritis, gynecomastia, asthenia, increased sweating, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, abdominal bloating, allergy
