Improvement of gastrointestinal diseases such as treatment and prevention of recurrence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (erosive reflux esophagitis), and treatment of Helicobacter pylori positive peptic ulcers.
This medication is used for the treatment and symptom relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly erosive reflux esophagitis. It is also included in antibiotic combination therapy for the eradication and prevention of recurrence in patients with Helicobacter pylori-associated peptic ulcers. It helps alleviate upper gastrointestinal symptoms in patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and treats and prevents gastric and duodenal ulcers. Additionally, it is effective in treating Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy following ulcer rebleeding. Overall, it is used for the treatment of various gastrointestinal-related diseases and symptom improvement.
This medication should be swallowed with liquid such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If not cured or if symptoms persist, take for an additional 4 weeks. - Maintenance therapy for prevention of esophagitis recurrence: 20 mg once daily. - Treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: once daily,
Adolescents aged 12 and older - Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If not cured or if symptoms persist, an additional 4 weeks of treatment is required.
This medication should not be used by certain patients. Patients who are hypersensitive to this medication or its components, or have a history of hypersensitivity to benzimidazole derivatives should not take it. Additionally, patients with hypersensitivity to penicillins or macrolide antibiotics should not be treated when combined with amoxicillin or clarithromycin for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori. Patients with a history of myocardial infarction or those who are breastfeeding should also avoid this medication. This medication can cause various adverse reactions. The most common symptoms include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, and dizziness or insomnia may occasionally occur. Rarely, blood abnormalities, hypomagnesemia, liver function abnormalities, skin rashes, and myalgia have been reported. In severe cases, serious side effects such as anaphylactic shock, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and liver failure may occur, so if symptoms appear, immediate medical attention is required. Prolonged use may conceal symptoms of malignant tumors, so if weight loss, recurrent vomiting, or hematemesis occur, it is essential to consult a doctor. It is important to undergo regular examinations if taken for more than one year. This medication suppresses gastric acid, which may slightly increase the risk of diarrhea or gastrointestinal infections. This drug may interact with other medications, so caution is advised, especially when taking antiviral drugs, antibiotics, warfarin, methotrexate, clopidogrel, etc. The effects of drugs taken together with this medication may increase or decrease, so it is necessary to inform and consult with the doctor or pharmacist about all medications being taken. There is limited data on the safety of this drug during pregnancy, so pregnant women should consult a doctor before taking it, and breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so it is essential to visit a medical institution immediately for appropriate treatment, as this drug binds strongly to blood proteins and is not removed by dialysis.
