This medicine is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly erosive esophagitis, and for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It is also effective for symptom relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is used in combination with antibiotics for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. Additionally, it helps treat and prevent symptoms or ulcers (gastric or duodenal) associated with the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Furthermore, it is used in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding due to gastric or duodenal ulcers. Therefore, this medicine is effectively used for the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal diseases and associated symptoms.

Precautions

This medicine should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to this medicine or its components, or who have had hypersensitivity reactions to benzimidazoles, should not take this medicine. In addition, when used with amoxicillin or clarithromycin for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, this medicine should not be administered if there is an allergy to these antibiotics. It is also safer for patients taking certain cardiovascular medications or antivirals, nursing mothers, and patients with a history of myocardial infarction not to use this medicine. While taking this medicine, various adverse reactions may occur, so caution is advised. Common gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and vomiting may occur. Rarely, blood-related issues or hypomagnesemia, hyponatremia, confusion, skin rash, hair loss, liver function abnormalities may occur, so if symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary. Long-term use of this medication requires regular check-ups, especially if taken for more than one year, as the risk of hypomagnesemia or fractures may increase. Since this medicine decreases gastric acidity, the risk of bacterial infection in the gastrointestinal tract may slightly increase, and if diarrhea symptoms persist, this should be reported to a healthcare professional. Moreover, this medicine can interact with other drugs, so it is crucial to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken. Data regarding its use during pregnancy is limited, so caution is required when using it during pregnancy, and it is advisable not to take this medicine while breastfeeding. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so appropriate treatment should be administered according to the symptoms, and it should be kept out of the reach of children.

Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, shock, hypomagnesemia, hepatitis, jaundice, hepatic failure, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (mucocutaneous reaction), toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), interstitial nephritis, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, myocardial infarction, deep vein thrombosis, QT prolongation, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, torsades de pointes.
