Prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency
This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in elderly individuals, adolescents, and adults who are deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency significantly impacts bone health, so it helps manage this condition appropriately to prevent complications such as osteoporosis or osteomalacia. This contributes to improving the overall health of patients and maintaining bone strength.
Administer 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol via intramuscular injection. For the elderly, administer 100,000 IU of cholecalciferol via intramuscular injection. Ensure that the annual dosage does not exceed 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol.
For adolescents, administer 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol via intramuscular injection.
This medication is an ampule injection; care must be taken when opening the container as glass shards may enter. Extra caution is necessary when used by children or elderly individuals. When taking other medications or fortified foods that contain vitamin D, care should be taken to avoid overdose by considering the total amount of vitamin D. Blood calcium levels should be regularly monitored, and if they exceed a certain level, administration should be stopped. If calcium intake is high, blood and urinary calcium levels should be observed continuously. This medication should not be used by patients with certain diseases or those who are pregnant, and it should be avoided in patients with poor kidney function or those who are immobile. Various side effects such as headaches, weakness, digestive disorders, dehydration, high blood pressure, and kidney problems may occur, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported immediately. Additionally, inflammatory reactions or rashes may occur at the injection site. When administering to patients with vitamin D deficiency, blood vitamin D levels should be monitored to maintain the proper dosage. Patients with reduced kidney function or those taking certain medications should regularly check kidney function and calcium levels through blood tests. This medication may interact with other drugs, so any ongoing medications must be reported. It is safest to avoid use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It has not been established as safe and effective for children under 12 years of age. In case of overdose, the administration should be stopped immediately, calcium intake should be reduced, and fluid intake should be increased. This medication should not be mixed with other medications, should be used promptly after opening, and any leftovers should be discarded. Store away from direct sunlight and maintain at room temperature.
Kidney impairment, severe allergic reactions (including hives), severe swelling, high blood pressure, arrhythmias.
Headaches, weakness, fatigue, muscle pain, loss of appetite, weight loss, growth retardation, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, polydipsia, polyuria, dehydration, high blood pressure, calcium stones, calcification of tissues such as kidneys and blood vessels, excessive bone calcification, arrhythmias, mental symptoms, awareness disorders, joint pain, myasthenia, drowsiness, azotemia, hypersensitivity reactions, thirst, confusion, bloating, abdominal pain, metallic taste, dry mouth, rashes, itching, injection site granuloma, injection site reactions.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be stored in a dark container to avoid exposure. Additionally, it should be stored at a temperature between 1°C and 30°C to maintain its efficacy.
A transparent liquid that is pale yellow in color, contained in a brown glass ampule.
