Improvement of gastrointestinal disorders including treatment and prevention of recurrence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (erosive reflux esophagitis), and treatment of Helicobacter pylori-positive peptic ulcers.
This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive reflux esophagitis. It is also effective for the treatment and prevention of recurrence in patients with duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers when used in combination with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori. It is used for the treatment and prevention of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers related to gastrointestinal symptoms that may occur during the administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Additionally, it aids in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and maintenance therapy for the prevention of rebleeding from gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers. This drug is used to improve and treat various symptoms related to gastrointestinal diseases.
1. Adults 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. - If esophagitis is not healed, continue for an additional 4 weeks. - Maintenance therapy for prevention of recurrence: 20 mg once daily. - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux symptoms without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. - If necessary, administer 20 mg once daily (for patients at high risk of developing gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers due to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). 2) Combined therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori Administer this drug 20 mg twice daily with amoxicillin 1 g and clarithromycin 500 mg for 7 days. 3) Short-term therapy for upper gastrointestinal symptoms (pain, discomfort, burning sensation) related to the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (non-selective COX-2, selective) - 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, additional medical care is needed. Clinical trials exceeding 4 weeks have not been conducted. 4) Patients requiring continuous administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs - Treatment of gastric ulcers related to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug use: 20 mg once daily. Treatment duration is 4-8 weeks. - Prevention of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers related to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug use: 20 mg once daily. 5) Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome The recommended initial dose is 40 mg twice daily. Subsequent doses should be adjusted based on the patient, and treatment should continue while clinical symptoms are present. According to clinical data, most patients can be controlled at doses of 80-160 mg per day. A dose of more than 80 mg per day should be divided into two doses. 6) Maintenance therapy after intravenous induction for rebleeding prevention from gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers After intravenous induction for rebleeding prevention from gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers, administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
2. Adolescents aged 12 years and older 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. - If treatment is incomplete, continue for an additional 4 weeks. - Symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: · 20 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, additional medical care is needed. · Once symptoms improve, continue to manage persistent symptoms with 20 mg once daily.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients with an allergy to this drug or its components, or those who have experienced hypersensitivity reactions to benzimidazole drugs in the past, should not take this drug. Moreover, patients allergic to penicillins or macrolide antibiotics, which are used in combination for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, should also avoid this drug. Patients who are taking certain heart-related medications or have a history of myocardial infarction, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this drug for safety. Various side effects may occur during the use of this drug, such as headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea, which can often happen. Rarely, severe side effects such as blood abnormalities, hypersensitivity reactions, and hypomagnesemia have been reported, so if symptoms are severe or persistent, one should consult a healthcare provider immediately. Regular health check-ups are necessary when taking this drug for a long time, and especially for those taking it for more than a year, magnesium levels and bone health should be periodically checked. Additionally, this drug may interact with other medications, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. During pregnancy, the safety of this drug has not been fully established, so it should be used cautiously when necessary, and it is recommended not to take this drug while breastfeeding. In cases of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, it is crucial to receive appropriate treatment according to the symptoms. Finally, keep this drug out of reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers for safety.
