Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (erosive reflux esophagitis, symptoms) and treatment of Helicobacter pylori positive peptic ulcer, preventive effect against gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer.
This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly erosive reflux esophagitis, and for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent relapse in patients with esophagitis. Additionally, it is effective in alleviating symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is also used in combination with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcer or peptic ulcer. It helps treat upper gastrointestinal symptoms that may occur with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and aids in the treatment and prevention of related gastric and duodenal ulcers. Furthermore, it is used for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers. It is widely used in the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal diseases.
This medication should be swallowed with liquids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If not satisfactorily treated or if symptoms continue, extend for another 4 weeks. - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. - Symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily.
Adolescents aged 12 and older - Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. Extend for an additional 4 weeks if not satisfactorily treated or if symptoms persist.
This medication should not be given to certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to this drug or any of its components or have experienced such reactions in the past, those allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics, patients currently taking certain cardiac medications, those with a history of heart disease, and breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication. This drug can cause various side effects. Common symptoms include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, and drowsiness, while rare but serious side effects such as blood disorders, severe allergic reactions, liver dysfunction, skin rashes, myalgia, and nephritis have also been reported. If muscle pain or weakness occurs, it is important to consult a healthcare provider immediately. Long-term use of this medication may lower magnesium levels in the blood, thus regular monitoring of magnesium levels is required, and supplementation should be made if necessary. Additionally, this medication can lower gastric acidity, potentially increasing bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract, which may heighten the risk of infection. This medication may interact with other drugs, so be sure to inform a healthcare provider about any medications currently being taken. Caution is especially needed when combined with anticoagulants, antiviral drugs, certain antibiotics, anticonvulsants, and immunosuppressants. Pregnant women should carefully consider using this medication, and it is safer not to take it while breastfeeding. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment should be symptomatic, and the medication should be stored in a safe place out of the reach of children. Furthermore, transferring the medication to other containers is not recommended as it may compromise quality.
