Prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency
This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in the elderly, adolescents, and adults who are deficient in vitamin D. Since vitamin D helps maintain bone health and aids calcium absorption, it is especially important for improving deficiency states. Therefore, this drug helps effectively prevent and improve health problems caused by vitamin D deficiency.
Adults receive 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol by intramuscular injection. Elderly patients receive 100,000 IU of cholecalciferol by intramuscular injection. Ensure that the annual dosage does not exceed 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol.
Adolescents receive 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol by intramuscular injection.
This medication contains vitamin D, so when taken with vitamin D-fortified foods or other vitamin D preparations, the total vitamin D intake should be checked carefully. Regular blood calcium levels should be monitored to prevent high calcium levels, and administration should be discontinued if serum calcium exceeds a certain level or if urinary calcium excretion is excessive. In cases of high calcium intake, it is important to frequently check calcium concentrations in the blood and urine. This drug should not be administered to patients with specific diseases or conditions, such as those with a history of hypercalcemia or kidney stones, patients with impaired kidney function, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid use. While using the drug, various side effects may occur such as headaches, fatigue, muscle pain, indigestion, dehydration, high blood pressure, kidney problems, skin rashes, etc. If any abnormal symptoms appear, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Regular tests of blood vitamin D levels and kidney function are necessary to verify the drug's effectiveness and safety. When taking other medications concurrently, interactions may occur, particularly when used with anticonvulsants, diuretics, antacids, blood thinners, etc. It is advisable not to take this drug during pregnancy, and in case of overdose, discontinue use immediately, reduce calcium intake, increase fluid intake, and receive necessary treatment. This drug should not be mixed with other medications, and it should be used quickly after opening and any remaining drug must be disposed of. Store in a sealed container to avoid exposure to air and light, and it is recommended to keep it at a cool temperature between 1 and 25 degrees Celsius.
